Iconography for UI Design (2006)

Quality iconography bespeaks a quality User Interface the way quality cufflinks bespeak a well-dressed man. They're not entirely necessary, but when they get noticed, the effect is always additive. Good icons always do their small part to further cement the User's impression of the interface as one that will not let them down. One they should trust. One they can put their money on. They connote a thoroughness and an attention to detail. And from a workflow perspective, they can often be as vital to our well-dressed man as pants. These icons were created to sell a client on an interface for a product we were vying to build for them.
